My name is Katie and I reside in beautiful, upstate New York with my husband, two sons, our daughter, a giant, super-slobbery dog and a kitty cat named, Toothless (who has all his teeth). For as long as I can remember, I have been enamored with all facets of language, both spoken and written. My mother often recalls that I "started talking in full sentences as a small baby, and basically haven't ever stopped!" I was drawn to the field of speech therapy for so many reasons; it's impossible to pick just one. If I had to choose, it would simply be for the fact that I love helping people, and knew that I wanted a career in which I could make a difference in someone's life.
I graduated with my Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2009 and have been practicing as a speech-language pathologist ever since. I have worked with very young children in Early Intervention, servicing the youngest members of our society in their homes and daycare settings. I have also worked extensively with preschoolers, both at home and in preschool/daycare settings, school age students (K-12), adults and the geriatric population within the Skilled Nursing Facility setting.
No matter the setting or population, I am rewarded constantly as a speech-language pathologist, in ways that are difficult to put into words. It's the tears of joy, shed by the mother who just heard her child say "mama," for the first time. It's the upper elementary student who finally gets that /r/ sound, after years of struggling. It's the daughter, who quietly holds my hand at her father's bedside, when he is close to passing in the final stages of life. It's that, everything in between, and so much more.
These are the moments that matter. These are the moments that remind me over and over again, that I am right where I am meant to be. This career has given me a life filled with meaning and purpose and I am so blessed to be able to be part of this amazing profession. I am thankful for every client, student and patient I have met on this journey, as each one has changed me in some way, making me a better clinician.
I look forward to continuing on this journey we call speech therapy, and helping as many people as I can to reach their communication goals.
Due to my inherent love for language, I always tell people that "when I grow up, I want to be a writer." In my spare time, I love writing children's books and imaginative stories, that one day, I hope to have published! When I'm not writing, I enjoy listening to almost every genre of music, drinking peppermint tea, taking nature walks and spending time with family.

Absolutely! Research has shown that online speech therapy is just as effective as traditional therapy delivered at a clinic. In addition, many families find the flexibility of online speech therapy more convenient.
Parents and caregivers are included in every session. When treating young children, our speech therapists coach parents and caregivers to support progress and promote at-home skill building throughout the week. During online sessions, young children interact predominantly with their families, while therapists provide education, strategies, and feedback so that parents can confidently practice outside of the session.
For school-age and older kids, parents are consistently updated on progress and goal outcomes during each meeting.
